In memory of a beloved TBS member, Diane Kaplan, the TBS Social Action committee is supporting the Connecticut Food Bank/Foodshare 5K Race Against Hunger walk, April 5-April 11, 2021.
Diane was an ardent supporter of the Connecticut Food Bank Race and in her memory the TBS Social Action Committee has made an initial donation of $200 to get TBS started. (more…)

Helping others in need is the goal of this committee. The Social Action Committee has happily found a way to be involved in the Sleeping Giant Build – Habitat for Humanity by donating 20+ seedlings of St Johns Wort, red maple and vegetable plants for their clients’ use. (more…)
For over 9 years the Isaiah Project has been an active program at TBS – delivering food and groceries every month to both the Jewish Family Service Pantry (JFS) and the Hamden Food Bank (HFB). The project was initiated in response to the recognition that a growing number of singles, children, families and seniors in our area face hunger on a regular basis. (more…)

On Sept. 20, 2016 learn about volunteering as a reading partner with JCL
“In the lives of the children we serve, having an adult read to them, discuss with them, and solicit their opinions is something which may happen only rarely,” says Beth Kaufman, chair of Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL).
JCL’s reading partners share the pleasures of reading; giving public elementary school students needed one-on-one attention. For just one hour a week, the volunteer reads and talks with a student. Volunteers help engage students with words, enriching foundations for thought and imagination. (more…)
November 2015 - Till Duty is Done Veterans' Program Our temple was very moved by the work being done by Til Duty is Done, a group that visited TBS recently and is helping veterans to ease back into civilian life. We would like to help by collecting clothing suitable for interviewing and professional work attire. Please consider donating men’s and women’s suits as well as dresses on Sunday, December 20th between 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Our committee will be in the social hall to collect. The Isaiah Food Project is Temple Beth Sholom’s ongoing initiative providing specifically identified grocery items to area food banks every month. Since it started in September of this year, there have been multiple deliveries to both the Jewish Family Service and the Hamden Food Banks. Approximately $250 was spent per delivery per food bank which meant that over 200 lbs of food was delivered to each agency each month. The Hebrew School students have now joined the Isaiah Fund Project in providing these groceries, thereby increasing the items we can donate. There will be a decorated container at the Temple with two specific requests needed for the month. When you see the sign, please keep these items in mind as you shop and drop them off the next time you are at the synagogue. Targeted items for December are tuna fish and cans of soup.
